The Global Symposium on ICT in Education (GSIE) was held at the COEX InterContinental Hotel in Seoul from September 11 to 13, 2018. The symposium, co-hosted by the Ministry of Education and UNESCO, organized by the Korea Education and Research Information Service(KERIS), will be held under the theme of "Teaching in the 21st Century: Enhancing Teacher ICT Competencies" and discuss on teacher ICT capacity building policies around the world, learning communities for teachers, and ongoing professional development innovation cases.

This symposium is held every year since 2007 to find ways to solve educational inequalities and digital education gaps in developing countries through the introduction of ICT (Information and Communication Technology). In particular, it has established itself as a representative international e-learning field meeting attended by high-level policy-makers in developing countries in order to learn about Korea's educational information promotion experience and policy performance through cooperation with major international organizations.

In addition, participants visited a company (Samsung SDS) where they visited the Software Education Research School in Seoul (Gaepo High School) to share examples of ICT use at the school site, and to experience advanced ICT technology and utilization of big data in intelligent information society.
