National Education Information System (NEIS), operated by the Ministry of Education of Korea and the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS), has been awarded the grand prize in the education administration information section of the national representative brands for the fifth consecutive year.
NEIS is a comprehensive system that enables the Ministry of Education of Korea, 17 metropolitan/provincial offices of education, and 10,000 elementary and middle schools handle education and academic affairs works and tasks online and use administrative information with government departments and other organizations. It was promoted as one of the 11 key tasks of e-government in 2001 and has been in operation since 2002.
NEIS also encourages the communication between school and home. Through the student-parent service and Home Edu civil service inside NEIS, students view and utilize all school life information such as grades, admission/enrolment, and graduation at any time. In addition, in line with the government's policies to strengthen the fairness of the university admission system, it also provides admission data for each university.
Besides, NEIS is endeavoring to expand educational welfare for all people, one-stop all-day care service and education expense and salary support programs by connecting with the administrative and welfare systems of government departments and public institutions.
Currently, NEIS is striving to upgrade NEIS as the 4th generation intelligent system by utilizing new technologies and data in accordance with the new policies such as the introduction of future-oriented curriculum. The new service will be available starting from 2023.
